Hey There!

Come on in and pull up a seat at The Polka Dot Desk. I’m here in this very first episode to give you more insight about me and this podcast. I feel like if we are going to spend time together we need to get acquainted. Once we get that our of the way, I jump into what Connect the Dots is all about. I drill down into what you can expect to learn about career, customers, and community. I appreciate your time in listening to this very first episode. Episode 01: Career – What exactly is that?

Today, we look at the basics of what is a career, how dreams play into your career, and talk a little about how millennials can build a career. Knowing how I view careers should help us step out on the right foot together. Below are a few of the topics and resources from this episode:

  • Definition: an occupation or profession, especially one requiring special training, followed as one’s lifework or a person’s progress or general course of action through life or through a phase of life, as in some profession or undertaking (dictionary.com)
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?
  • Dreaming big dreams
  • Building a career as a millennial
  • Not all careers require a college degree

Episode 02: Customers – Who are they? 

Today, we look at the basics of who customers are, the roles we play, and the importance of understanding them. Here is a quick run down of the topics we cover.

  • Definition: a person who purchases goods or services from another; informal – a person one has to deal with(dictionary.com)
  • Who is your customer?
  • What type of customer are you? Are you a nice customer?
  • The importance of understanding your customer.

Episode 3: Community – What is that?

Today, we look at the basics of what makes up a community. Here is a quick run down of the topics we cover.

  • Definition: a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists (usually preceded by the): the business community; the community of scholars
  • Communities in the past and present
  • Future topics about Community

  • Step 4: Define the feeling.

Episode 06: What if community scares you?

Today, we tackle the topic of community and what to do if it scares you. This is a very raw and real episode for me. I have dealt with this personally in throughout my life. I am sharing some personal prayers and dreams in this episode.

Here’s what I know about being scared of community:

    • You fear judgement from others.
    • You fear being an extra wheel.
    • You fear being left out.

Here are some tips to overcome the fear of community:

Tip #1: Be You!

Tip #2: Don’t be the smartest person in your circle.

Tip #3: Don’t retreat.
